Define Dyslexia ...

Dyslexia is a learning disability characterized by problems in reading, spelling, writing, speaking, or listening.  I always thought dyslexia was a reversal of letters like b and d.  I was surpised to learn dyslexia was so much more.  It is a memory based disability,  some people with dyslexia never learn to do penmanship (cursive). Did you know dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence and that it appears to be inherited? I never knew any of these things...Dyslexia is not a disease, many people with dyslexia are gifted. A Doctor once described it to me this way:  Imagine waking up everday and everything is written in Chinese every stop sign, newspaper and telelvison and you have to try to navigate your way through this maze of a language that makes absolutly no sense at all to you. This is the true world of dyslexia.  My defintion of dyslexia ?  It is not a dis-abilty but an ability to teach others a different way to learn.
