Life Without a Book is a documentary film telling the story Rick "Pepper" Holmes, an accomplished funk drummer who graduated high school unable to read in 1974. After high school his music took him around the world with some of the biggest names in R&B music. Now fifty-three years old, he still struggles with the most basic level of reading.  The film is an up close portrait of one man's struggle with reading, and surviving in our visual, alphabetical world. The larger issues of literacy, education, and the power of music are channeled through the subject of Rick, and his situation is one that is familiar to so many people. Through interviews, musical performances, poetry, and cinema veritae, Life Without a Book gives a voice to those effected by literacy, and presents a hard hitting, raw, look at one man's struggle with reading and life.

Samantha's segment will be filmed in our home in Dorothy on Febuary 13th,  2010.  I have never met a more intuned determined Director....
